  • The WoC video contest is a nationwide competition in Ireland aiming to encourage youth to address environmental issues such as biodiversity loss, ocean pollution, and climate change through short videos. Participants are invited to share their visions and ideas with the wider Irish audience.

  • The contest is open to Irish citizens aged 15 to 18, in Transition Year (TY) or Senior Cycle (fifth and sixth year).

    Teams can consist of up to three members and must be supervised by a teacher/educator.

  • Participants have the freedom to choose a topic related to one of the three main themes: biodiversity loss, climate change, or ocean pollution. For more details please visit one of the pages above

  • The contest launches on September 2024, and submissions are accepted until February 28th, 2025 (Friday) at 5 PM.

    Winners will be announced by June 2025.

  • Videos will be evaluated based on relevance to the themes, originality, creativity, quality of production, quality of research, and potential impact for change.

  • All submissions should use small clips provided by the Waves of Change team, which are part of the song Leave no Trace by Naomi Berrill.

    Naomi kindly provided the rights to use some small clips of the song to inspire young generations, so please make sure to support her work.

  • Leave no Trace is an original song written by cellist Naomi Berrill for the Galway Bay is Calling project.

    This project is a Creative Ireland funded project, led by Music for Galway, in collaboration with the Galway Atlantaquaria and the Atlantic Technological University.

  • A variety of prizes will be awarded to the three wining teams/schools

  • Videos must NOT contain copyrighted material unless you have obtained written consent from the owner, and that consent is uploaded with your submission. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

  • While participation in teams of up to three members is encouraged, individual entries are also accepted. However, all submissions must adhere to the guidelines and conditions outlined in the Waves of Change rules, including provision of parental consent for minors (<18 y.o.)

  • Yes, videos should be in MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, WebM, or FLV format and adhere to standard definition (SD), high definition (HD), or full HD (FHD) resolution. The maximum duration, including credits, should not exceed 3 minutes.

  • No, videos must be in either English or Gaeilge to ensure accessibility to the wider Irish audience.

  • Each team can submit a maximum of three videos, with the opportunity to address one theme per video: biodiversity loss, climate change, and ocean pollution.

  • A panel of five jury members will evaluate and score the videos based on criteria such as relevance to the themes, originality, creativity, quality of production, quality of research, and potential impact for change.

  • Videos with inappropriate images, language, offensive, or objectionable material will be excluded from the contest. It's essential to ensure that your video aligns with the guidelines to maintain eligibility.

  • No, all submissions must be received by the specified deadline, January 31st, 2025, at 5 PM. Late submissions will not be considered for awards.

  • Yes, after the jury evaluation, there will be a public online vote for the selected videos. The details of the voting process will be provided closer to the evaluation period.

  • If participants are minors, consent from a parental or legal guardian is necessary for their participation. Consent forms must be filled out prior to submission.

    When you submit , you can upload one document stating that all parental consent forms were already filled it online.
